Martin Atkinson has been confirmed as the referee for the Manchester derby as Manchester United welcome bitter rivals, Manchester City in the week 33 league game at Old Trafford.
Manchester City are certain to wrap up the league with a must win game at Old Trafford travelling to Wembley and a guard of honour will be mounted for them before kick-off against Tottenham .
Atkinson began his top- flight officiating in the premier league in Manchester City’s clash at the Selhurst Stadium against Crystal Palace in the 2004/2005 season after serving as assistant referee between 2000 and 2003.
Since September 2009 when he officiated his first Manchester derby game, he has gone to officiate three other derbies with Manchester United winning three of the games against Manchester City with just one draw which was the last derby he officiated April 2017.
He was the referee in charge of Manchester City’s FA cup victory against Stoke City in 2011 and their Capital One cup final triumph over Sunderland in 2014.
