Atletico Madrid president, Enrique Cerezo says Antoine Griezmann has what it takes to win the Ballon d’Or award or they will have to ask the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Griezmann inspired France to their second World Cup title in Russia after the Les Bleus defeated Croatia 4-2 at the Luzhniki stadium on Sunday.
The Atletico Madrid forward went ahead to win the Adidas Bronze Ball award as third best player of the tournament after Luka Modric and Eden Hazard and also the Adidas silver boot as the second highest goalscorer of the tournament with four goals after Harry Kane who scored six goals to win the Golden Boot.
Cerezo said the club was delighted that three of its players, Antoine Griezmann, Lucas Hernandez and Thomas Lemar won the most prestigious trophy in football.
He, however, told Spanish paper, Marca that Griezmann is the obvious candidate for the Ballon d’Or.
He said, “If they don’t give the Ballon d’Or to Griezmann, we will have to ask for VAR,”
Atletico Madrid won the last season’s Europa League title with Griezmann scoring in the final against Marseille.
