Spanish giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona will have fewer games beginning from the 2019-2020 season as Copa del Rey is set to undergo major changes to the competition.
Spanish FA chief Javier Tebas said that the competition which has been played in two-legged with the bug clubs joining at the quarter-final state, will now be played in a one leg where a winner must be decided.
The Spanish FA chief shedding further clarification said, “On the one-off games front, I believe we are much closer than we thought.
“For the upcoming campaign it is impossible because the rights have already been sold — but for the ’19/20 season, it is a reality.”
Both clubs will now have lesser games to play with the one-legged Copa del Rey games which will give them time to focus more also on the Champions League.
