Seville’s dream of clinching a sixth Copa Del Rey and booking a ticket to next season’s Champions League was crushed in a brutal fashion as Barcelona mauled them 5-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano, Saturday night.
In what seem to be a training practice for Barça, Sevilla were caught off guard by the nervousness of the backline, Barça opened scoring just 13 minutes to the game through Luis Suarez as the La Liga champions would only inflict more pains on their opponents as the minutes went by.
The rampaging Blagruana claimed their 30th Copa Del Rey title as a double from Suárez, as well as goals from Messi, Iniesta and Coutinho who scored from the spot, handed Ernesto Valverde his first trophy for the club since becoming the coach this summer.
The game could also go ahead to mean Iniesta’s last Copa Del Rey finals for Barça as he may be leaving the club after this season.
Barcelona are sure on course to lift the domestic double title with La Liga already in view.
It was indeed an agonising end to the Copa del Rey final for Sevilla Football Club who will have no other option than to respond with every ounce of fury it can muster to secure a place in Europe competition next season with a trip to Levante.
