Borussia Dortmund has announced that Michy Batshuayi is set to miss the rest of the season after scans on the Belgian international revealed the striker sustained a serious ankle injury in their 2-0 loss to Schalke 04 on Sunday.
The club announced via their twitter page that, “Michy Batshuayi contracted an ankle injury during the derby game at Schalke and is likely to miss the remainder of the season”.
Batshuayi who is set to be included in the Belgium national team for the Russia 2018 World Cup could be fit before the tournament as confirmed by the club to douse the fear from the Belgium national team.
“An appearance for the Belgian national team at the World Cup in Russia remains a possibility. Get well soon, Michy!”
Batshuayi appeared to have rolled on his left ankle following a challenge from Schalke player Benjamin Stambouli before being stretchered off deep into added time as Dortmund finished the Matchday 30 contest with ten men.
The 24-year-old – scored ten goals in 14 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund since agreeing a six-month loan switch from Chelsea in January.
