Enyimba FC began this season’s CAF Confederation Cup campaign with a 2-nil win over Malian club, Djoliba 2-0 at the U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar on Sunday.
The People’s Elephant got their goals in the second half after they failed to make judicious use of most of their chances in the first half as Isiaka Oladuntoye’s thumping shot from a corner broke the deadlock in the 48th minute.
Enyimba continued to search for another goal as Paul Aigbogun brought in Stanley Dimgba to add more force to his attack as the hosts continued to mount pressure on their visitors.
The only Nigeria club representative in all CAF competitions this season, finally got the chance to increase their lead as Omofoman was brought down in the box by a Djoliba defender, the referee pointed to the spot and Stanley Dimgba converted the resultant penalty kick for the second goal.
With the game ended 2-0, Enyimba now top group C after Williamsville were able to defeat CARA by a lone goal in Abidjan.
Enyimba will travel to Congo for their second game in the CAF Confederation on Wednesday 16 May.
