Day ten of the Commonwealth Games holding in Gold Coast, Australia proved lucrative as Nigeria added six medals to make its total haul to twenty three.
With the wrestling team bagging most of the medals, Aminat Adeniyi was the only Nigerian gold medallist of the day in Gold Coast, she defeated Canada’s Michelle Fazzari in the 62kg class of the Women’s Wrestling event after the latter retired from the bout via an injury.
Also, Melvin Bibo secured for himself a Silver medal in the Men’s Freestyle 86kg, having lost to Pakistan’s Muhammad Inam who won by 3-0 Classification points (victory by points), while Miesinnei Genesis clinched a Bronze medal after she defeated Australia’s Rupinder Kaur 10-0 (victory by technical superiority) in the Women’s Wrestling 50kg.
The Athletics event also provided two medals, a Silver and Bronze respectively, with the 4x400m and 4x100m women’s teams responsible for both.
Faith Obazuaye also won another medal in women’s tennis. The Para-athlete, who has breezed past her opponents without dropping a set in the competition, clinched a Silver medal for herself after losing 3-1 to Australia’s Melissa Tapper in the final of the Women’s TT6-10.
However, Aruna Quadri set up a meeting for the gold event with Singapore’s Ning Gao in the Men’s table tennis Final.
