Nigeria’s Basketball team to the 2018 Commonwealth Games led by Ike Diogu lost their first in the competition after a woeful performance against New Zealand on Friday. D’ Tigers 65-110 defeat to New Zealand leaves the team at the bottom of the round Pool A, a group that also contains the host, Australia and Canada.
D’Tigers lost a vital comeback chance after their woeful 8-31 display at the 3rd quarter, failing to win in all four quarters. Team Nigeria’s top performer at the game was Azuoma who amassed 15 points, while Captain Ike Diogu hit 12 points in their first appearance.
Nigeria Vs. New Zealand final results in all quarter; 15-24, 20-26, 8-31, and 22-29.
Nigeria will be hoping to avoid another defeat when they face Canada at the Cairns Convention Centre on Saturday. D’Tigers last game in their group will be against the 2018 Commonwealth Games host, Australia on the 10 of April.
D’Tigers team to the Gold Coast Game in Australia is basically a second team when compared to the star-studded team that played the FIBA 2018 World Cup qualifiers earlier in 2018.
Ofoegbu Uchechi and Ike Diogu were the only players chosen from the D’Tigers FIBA Qualifier team that defeated Rwanda, Uganda and Mali at the African Group B qualifier games earlier in February.
Nigeria is ranked no 32 in the World FIBA Rankings, New Zealand at 38, while Australia and Canada occupy the number 10 and 23rdposition on the table respectively.
Team Nigeria is still without any medal after the second day of the 2018 Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
