Huddersfield Manager, David Wagner has said his side’s escape from relegation following their 1-1 draw against Chelsea is a bigger achievement than when they gained promotion to the Premier League.
Huddersfield fought their ways to avoid relegation as they dented Chelsea’s top-four hopes on Wednesday night in Stamford Bridge.
David Wagner in a post-match interview said, “It’s a bigger achievement than the promotion, last season we were predicted to get relegated and we won promotion,” he said. “I don’t think my English is good enough to describe what the players have done throughout the whole season”
“Some predicted this season that we would be relegated by miles. I understand that totally. We work under circumstances that are maybe not even Championship circumstances – but part of our DNA is to try and have passion and desire. It doesn’t matter how big you are – you have to try everything. Togetherness is a big part.”
Wagner has kept his lads in the league against all odds remaining in the relegation zone just eight days despite the club’s miniature budget.
Huddersfield will play their last Premier League game against Arsenal at the Kirklees Stadium on Sunday.
