The Super Falcons were in imperious form on Monday when they literally destroyed the Scorpions of Gambia 6-0 in the return leg of their African Women Nations Cup qualifier in Lagos.
The Nigerian women who had put aside the trauma of being robbed in their hotel before their 1-0 victory against the same opponents in Banjul last week were in a vengeful mood as they took the sting off the Scorpions in a comprehensive win.
Four goals from veteran, Desire Oparanozie and a brace from reigning African Women Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala was enough to guarantee the Falcons a berth in the upcoming African Women Nations Cup in Ghana later in the year.
The Falcons who are Africa’s current champions thus won the two-legged encounter on 7-0 aggregates.
An elated Oshoala, speaking after the game praised the effort of the team in ensuring they gave a convincing performance, adding that they were quite focused as they head to Ghana later in the year to defend the AWCON title they won in Cameroon two years ago.
” I am quite happy with today’s performance. I like the unity of purpose, and the way we went all out for this victory. I think it will serve as a tonic as we target a defence of the title we won in Cameroon two years ago,” she said.
