Ikeme also was announced last week as the honorary 24th member of the Super Eagles squad for the Russia 2018 World Cup by Gernot Rohr as a sign of respect for the Wolverhampton goalkeeper who played a vital role at the beginning of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers.

Despite not going to the World Cup, Ikeme will feature in the new World Cup mode of the popular video game, FIFA 18 alongside compatriots such as Victor Moses, Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi.

Ikeme was diagnosed with acute leukaemia in July 2017 and has since then continuously received support, both moral and financial, from friends, clubs as well as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
