FIFA president, Gianni Infantino on Wednesday said he assumed office when the football body was “clinically dead”.
Infantino made the assertion while addressing the FIFA congress in Moscow, putting into consideration his predecessor’s corruption scandal, Sepp Blatter.
“Two years later, it was “very much alive” and full of “joy”, with a clear vision for its future,”
Former FIFA boss, Sepp Blatter had resigned in 2015 after 17 years reign in FIFA following an allegedly illicit payment of £1.3m to Micheal Platini and a TV deal signed with Jack Warner.
Since he took over, Infantino has put FIFA on a sound financial footing and has introduced various innovations such as the Video Assistant Referee system.
Also, Russian President Vladimir Putin, while addressing the FIFA Congress, throw praises on Infantino.
“We know that Infantino became the head of FIFA in difficult times but he has steered it well, like a true fighter,” he said.
