AC Milan coach, Gennaro Gattuso has defended his goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma despite his poor performance in their Wednesday night Italian Cup final.
AC Milan was outwitted in the final by Juventus who mauled the Rossoneri 4-0 with Donnarumma culpable for two of the goals.
Gattuso in a post-match said, “At the moment I can’t explain what happened to Donnarumma. We all make mistakes and today we can’t judge Donnarumma. Tonight, everyone lost.
“I know that I am being judged for what I am doing each day, the duration of my contract is not important, but we need to understand who we are now, we need to think about the next 180 minutes, because the repercussions of this defeat may be hard.
“Juventus have more experience and stronger players than we do, that is a fact. I blame my players. Experience in sport isn’t bought at the supermarket, it comes with playing a lot of games.
“We had a lot of youngsters on the pitch, and that showed. It wasn’t. Donnarumma’s mistakes which led to the defeat, we all lost together.”
The former AC Milan midfielder hinted that there is need to sign three or four players that will add depth to the club.
