World No 11, Angelique Kerber on Tuesday defeated Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 7-5 to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament for the third time in her career.
Kerber is the highest seeded woman to reach Wimbledon’s quarter-finals since the tournament introduced seedings in 1920.
It is the first time none of the top ten seeds will make it to the quarter-finals of the All England Club.
The 30-year old will face No. 12 Jelena Ostapenko on Thursday for a berth in the final, while Jelena Ostapenko cruised to the semi-final on Tuesday after defeating Dominika Cibulkova 7-5, 6-4.
The match featured eight breaks of serve, four in the first five games, Ostapenko was able to elevate her game in the crucial moments.
The Latvian hit 33 winners to Cibulkova’s six but also doubling her opponent’s unforced error count.
