Lionel Messi has downplayed the possibility of Nigeria’s chance of winning the World Cup as he ruled the Super Eagles out of the major contenders for the trophy.
The La Albiceleste captain in an interview said Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Spain, France and Belgium are the major contenders.
He said, “There are various teams going into the tournament with confidence, playing well and with good individuals, as is the case with Brazil, Germany, Spain, France and Belgium, although the latter is not mentioned as much.
“We have good players and the experience of the last World Cup, will be an even competition,”
The five-time Ballon ‘d Or winner is yet to lead his team to glory as he looks to break the hoodoo in this year’s summer game which seems to be his last for Argentina.
Argentina will open their First World Cup game against Iceland on June 16.
