Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez struck two quick goals to deny Seville all three points and extend Barcelona’s unbeaten run in La Liga this season at the Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
Messi who missed Argentina’s two friendlies was consigned to the bench by coach Ernesto Valverde as he started Ousmane Dembele, coutinho and Luis Suarez in the attack.
Barcelona could have gone ahead in the game as Dembele and Coutinho combined to set up Suarez in the ninth minute, but the Uruguayan fired wild off target.
Sevilla got the opener in the 36th minute when Franco Vazquez turned in a Correa’s cross.
The Catalans almost responded before the first half whistle when Umtiti teed up Pique who blasted wide at the back post.
It took just five minutes into the second half when Sevilla doubled their lead as Muriel got on the scoresheet with a close-range finish after Vazquez’s initial strike was saved.
Seville were already at the verge of stopping the invincible run of Barcelona before Ernesto Valverde unleashed his weapon of mass destruction, Lionel Messi for Dembele.
The impact on Messi was sooner felt as Barça look more determined. In the 88th minute, Coutinho set Suarez for a what seem to be a consolation goal before Messi leveled less than two minutes with a scintillating finish to share the spoils for Sevilla.
The win mean Barcelona are one game away from matching the all-time La Liga unbeaten game in a season record.
