Argentina national team’s scheduled visit to Pope Francis on Wednesday at the Vatican City has been cancelled.
Vatican press officer director, Greg Burke revealed in a tweet about the cancellation after the La Albiceleste friendly was also cancelled by the Israeli Embassy on Tuesday.
Burke wrote on Twitter: “The audience of the Pope with the Argentina national team has been called off. We will wait for them with joy when they return from the Cup!”
Pope Francis, a native of Argentina had earlier said last month that he will be receiving the Argentina national team before their departure to Russia
Born in Buenos Aires, Pope Francis is a football fan and a member of Argentine club San Lorenzo de Almagro.
Details for the cancellation of the meeting with the Pope was not revealed and a new date was not also scheduled.
