NPFL: Enyimba Aims To Stretch Rangers Dominance In Oriental Derby

The week 12 of NPFL is going to be headlined by the Oriental Derbies. is One game  stands out, and it will avail NPFL supporters of the South East teams an opportunity to decide who the true king of football in the region will be.

Rangers’ International will play host to their more successful rivals, Enyimba FC who are currently sitting fourth in the NPFL table at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium otherwise known as the “Cathedral”.

Enyimba FC have beaten the Flying Antelopes eight times out of their last nineteen meetings compared to the six times they have lost to the 2015/2016 NPFL winners, while there have been five stalemates between them.

The People’s Elephant will be motivated for the game if recent form is to draw a conclusion from. Their 2-0 away win against Benin Republic’s Energie FC in their CAF Confederations Cup capped a brilliant run of form on the domestic scene as they have not lost a game in the league in their last three, amassing seven points from a possible nine.

Enugu Rangers, on the other hand, have drawn their last three NPFL games following their last home win against El-Kanemi Warriors at the “Cathedral”. They had also forced Sunshine Stars FC to a 1-1 draw away in Akure.

Enyimba fantastic away record should therefore come in handy as they battle for supremacy against their Eastern Nigerian neighbours.

Rangers International are  currently 8th in the NPFL, have so far recorded just three wins from last five home games and will be hoping to extend their home advantage when they face the highly rated Enyimba.

Both sides would be banking on the fire power of their danger men when they lock horns, while Enyimba will be boosted by the return of their experienced striker, Mfon Udoh and free scoring, Stanley Dimgba., The People’s Elephant, should also be wary of the duo of Godwin Aguda and Ifeanyi George if they hope to grab a share of the spoils at the “Cathedral”.

Coach Paul Aigbogun will hope his lads replicate the form that virtually made their game against their Beninoise opponent away in Cotonou, a stroll in the park.

A win for them against Rangers, should surely give them a head start over fellow table toppers Kano Pillars who travel to Damaturu to tackle Yobe Stars.

In the other Oriental derby, FC IfeanyiUbah will try neighbours, Abia Warriors for size in another battle for supremacy.
