Former world No 1, Serena Williams says she feels disappointed to have been abruptly forced out of the French Open by injury just when she had begun to enjoy her game and making progress.
The 36-year old who spoke at a press conference in Roland Garros on Monday, revealed that she had suffered a pectoral muscle injury.
Serena, who was emotional as she addressed reporters said, she could not serve effectively because of a problem with her arm’s pectoral muscle.
“I am disappointed, I gave up so much, from time with my daughter and family and I put everything on the court,
“Its really difficult to be in this situation but for now, I want to think positive of the bigger picture, hopefully, next event and the rest,” she stated.
Serena was due to face perennial rival, Maria Sharapova in the fourth round of the competition before the injury.
The American is a three-time champion at the French Open, winning in 2002, 2013, 2015.
