Super Falcons of Nigeria’s African Women’s Cup of Nation (AWCON) qualifier against Gambia will witness the likes of Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega and eight other foreign-based professional female footballers on parade.
The African player of the year, Oshoala was missing during the last friendly encounter against France, but will now play the game against the scorpions in June.
Super falcon’s coach, Thomas Dennerby had earlier invited 26 home-based players for the encounter but has now added 10 more foreign-based stars to the camp.
The first leg of the qualifier will be played in Gambia, at Bakau’s Independence Stadium, June 6, while the return leg comes up at the Udoukaha Jacob Esuene Stadium, Calabar on June 11.
The Winner of the two legged encounter will qualify for the 11th AWCON finals, which will be held in Ghana, from 17th November to 1st of December 2018.
The tournament also doubles as the African qualifiers for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The winner, runners up and third place team will qualify for the World Cup in France.
Nigeria is the defending champion.
The 10 foreign based players include:
Defenders: Onome Ebi (Henan Huishang, China), Josephine Chukwunonye (Asarum IF, Sweden), Osinachi Ohale (Vittsjo GK, Sweden); Faith Ikidi (Pitea IF, Sweden)
Midfielders: Rita Chikwelu (KDFF, Sweden), Halimat Ayinde (Asarum IF, Sweden), Ngozi Okobi (Eskilstuna United, Sweden).
Forwards: Asisat Oshoala (Dalian Quanjian, China), Desire Oparanozie (EA Guingamp, France), Francisca Ordega (Washington Spirit, USA)
