The Abuja and Lagos branches of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry(MFM) have produced the teams that will contest the finals of this year’s edition of the Dr D.K Olukoya International Youth Cup Competition.
Both teams who emerged the best amongst the 32 teams which began the tourney on July 20, triumphed in the semi-finals over equally formidable opponents in the MFM family to berth in the finals on Friday.
Abuja Central Area branch of the MFM had overcome their Agege, Lagos counterparts 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the full time while the Magboro Lagos branch of the church beats a resilient MFM team from the headquarters 6-5, also on penalties to reach the finals of the competition which began in 2007.
The competition which held in the church’s playground at the Prayer City on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway attracted a huge turnout of football enthusiasts, team supporters, members of the tournament’s Local Organising Committee(LOC),as well as a host of other prominent figures which included Pastor Alewi Frederick, Vice- Chairman of MFM FC , Coach of the MFM FC, Fidelis Ilechukwu and Godwin Enakhena, MFM’s Head of Sports.
Commenting on the success of the two- week tournament, Mr Enakhena said he was impressed by the high level of competitiveness from all the teams that participated, just as he commended the standard of officiating which he said was top- notch.
“I must say I have been quite impressed by the high level of competitiveness from the teams that participated in this 6th edition of the Dr D K Olukoya Competition. The competition has grown in stature since it commenced in 2007.
“I was also very satisfied by the performance of the referees as there was never a single incident arising from poor officiating, ” he said.
The final of the competition has been slated for October at the Yaba College of Technology, Akoka, Lagos.
