Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical and Development Committee, Ahmed Yusuf Fresh has urged the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to use the friendly game against Liberia as an avenue to identify new legs for the team.
The Eagles defeated Seychelles 3-0 in their second group game on Saturday in the AFCON qualifying game on Saturday at the Linite Stadium in Victoria to move to third place in the group behind Libya and South Africa.
Ahmed while speaking in an interview said, “It was a very good performance by the Super Eagles despite the poor state of the synthetic grass, the strong wind and many other challenges.
“It was a needed victory for us to battle for the 2019 AFCON ticket, and to even restore the hopes of football lovers in our darling Super Eagles,” Ahmed Fresh who was part of the NFF delegation to Seychelles said.
“Ordinarily, friendly matches are tested to keep the players in proper shape at any given intermission, professionally in football. Of a truth, we pounced Pirates of Seychelles 3-0.
I must say that Nigerians expected more than what the Super Eagles offered, albeit, kudos to the team as they garner the needed three points to give relevance in our group. Going by the rating of Super Eagles players, it is evident that we have little constraints and our clarity playing Liberia should go beyond the friendly tag.
“The Technical and Development Committee believes Gernot Rohr and his technical crew can use the match to identify the problems of the team and equally alleviate them before our next month 2019 AFCON qualifying double-header matches against Group E leaders Libya,” Fresh submitted.
The Super Eagles will play an international friendly on Tuesday in Monrovia to honour an invitation from Liberia president, George Weah who was a former World Footballer of the Year.
