Argentina Football Federation (AFA) have snubbed overtures from football legend, Diego Maradona, to manage its national team free of charge, but appointed Lionel Scaloni and Pablo Aimar as interim coaches to replace Jorge Sampaoli.
Sampaoli was sacked by the Argentine FA following the country’s dismal performance at the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Argentina FA president, Claudio Talia while confirming the appointment said Aimar and Scaloni are to act for the main time until a suitable coach is appointed.
“Later we will decide who will assume the role permanently. We are going to take our time to make the right choice.”
Scaloni was assistant to Sampaoli at the recent FIFA World Cup in Russia, where La Albiceleste were eliminated with a 4-3 defeat against eventual winners France in the Round of 16.
While Aimar has been the U-17 coach of the country.
The LA Albiceleste next match is against Guatemala on 7 September in Los Angeles, before a meeting with Colombia in New Jersey four days later.
