Barcelona midfielder, Arthur Melo has revealed that former club legend, Andres Iniesta is his hero and has been mimicking his style of play from childhood.
Arthur Melo who joined Barca this summer said he believes he will be able to follow the footsteps of Iniesta who joined the Catalans at the age of 12 and rose to become a world superstar.
The Brazilian in a short video interview with ‘The Player’s Tribune’ described the FC Kobe of Japan midfielder as a player who dominated the department for years in Europe before his move to Asia.
The 22-year-old said, “As a midfielder, he was for many years the best player.
“I started following his moves more closely,” Arthur said, explaining that he would practice kicking the ball against the wall to imitate Iniesta’s touches. “I used to do it in my home.”
The Barca No 8 said wearing the same jersey Iniesta wore while playing for the club was not planned as it was coincidental when he was asked the jersey number he preferred.
“That’s OK,” Arthur explains in the interview what he told Barça at the time. “You can give me any number you want to. I’m already very happy and proud to play at [FC] Barcelona.
“But, coincidentally, I ended up with 8.”
