The Cadbury Bournvita Duathlon Championship is scheduled for February 10 in Lagos, organisers have said.
A duathlon is three-part long-distance race that usually comprise a running phase, a bicycling phase, and a final running phase.
In a statement, the Cadbury’s Corporate and Government Affairs Director for West Africa, Mr Bala Yesufu, said the national championship would feature both male and female athletes in junior and senior categories across some states of the federation, including schools and recreational clubs.
He said, “Cadbury is proud to be associated with this sporting competition, which is one of our brand touchpoints.”
“This is just one out of the several ways that we help promote sports development in the country. We believe the championship will further expose some of the hidden sports talents that we have in Nigeria.”
President of NTU, Wale Oladunjoye, stated that athletics and cycling clubs in Nigeria had also been invited to participate in the tournament, which he noted, is the first of its kind in the country
He added that the Cadbury Bournvita Duathlon Championship is one of the numerous events that the union has lined up for 2019.
