Chukwueze Scores As 10-men Villarreal Held Barcelona To Stalemate

Super Eagles forward, Samuel Chukwueze was on target for his Spanish club, Villarreal as they held Barcelona to a 4-4 draw on Tuesday night at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

Fresh from representing the Nigeria U-23 team to qualify for the next stage of the Africa U-23 Nations Cup, Chukwueze, who was also awarded Nigeria Young player of the Year at the Aiteo/NFF Awards night held at the Eko Hotels and Suites on Monday night, lived up to expectations for his club.

He was handed a starting jersey by Villarreal manager, Javier Calleja who is hoping to guide the team to avoid relegation this season as they presently occupy the 17th position in the La Liga table.

Barcelona took the lead through Philipe Coutinho who broke the deadlock in the 12th minute before Malcolm doubled the lead for Barcelona.

Chukwueze gave Villarreal the courage to fight harder as he reduced the deficit to 2-1 in the 23rd minute and also assisted Toko Ekambi to level for the Yellow Submarines five minutes before the break.

The hosts completed the comeback through Vicente Iborra in the 62nd minute before Carlos Bacca doubled the lead to take the scoreline to 4-2.

Barcelona was never ready for a defeat as they rallied back with two late goals from Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez after Villarreal were reduced to 10-men.

Chukwueze has now scored four goals in 19 appearances for the Yellow Submarines this season in the La Liga.
