Djokovic Beats Federer, Makes History With Cincinatti

Former world number one Novak Djokovic defeated the seven-time champion, Roger Federer6-4 6-4 in the Cincinnati Masters to become the first player to win all nine Masters in 1,000 tournaments.

Djokovic who is a five-time runner-up had lost the Cincinnati Masters final on five previous occasions, three of which to Roger Federer.

The Wimbledon winner, Djokovic had lost the Cincinnati final to the Swiss, Federer on three previous occasions.

World No 2, Federer would have won his 99th career trophy if only he emerge victorious against Djokovic, as well as leveling the long-time rivals’ head-to-head record at 23-23.

Djokovic will now look to take his form into the US Open, which starts on 27 August, having previously won two titles at Flushing Meadows.
