Nigeria U-23 team, Dream Team defeated Libya 4-0 to overturn a 2-0 deficit and qualify to the next round of the Africa U-23 Nations Cup on 4-2 aggregate at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba on Monday.
Aside from moving to the next stage, the U-23 team will also get N4m from Super Eagles Captain, Ahmed Musa, who had pledged to pay the Dream Team, N1m for every goal they score in the match.
RSC Charleroi points man, Victor Osimhen scored a hat trick to hand the Imama Amapakabo’s led side the deserved victory against the Libyan team who resorted to using delay tactics to frustrate the Nigerian side.
After falling to Libya in the first leg in Tunisia, Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, took matters into his hands as he deployed four players who were on duty for the Super Eagles to the U-23, to help execute the game including the first-choice goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho.
With a star-studded team that consisted of Kelechi Nwakali, Samuel Chukwueze, Taiwo Awoniyi and players from the senior team who have been members of the U-23 teams, Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 34th minute as the first half ended 1-0.
The second half resumed with aggregate standing at 1-2 and Libya decided to play deeper in the back repelling all attacks thrown on them by the Dream team who do not want to let the supporters at the Stadium down and in the 67th minute, Osimhen doubled the lead and brought the aggregate to 2-2.
The RSC Charleroi forward completed his hat trick in the 81st minute to take the aggregate to 3-2 before he turned in an assist for Okereke to make it 4-0 as Nigeria now has a third-round clash against either Kenya or Sudan as the only hurdle to jump before hitting Egypt.
