The Nigeria U-23 national team has departed the country ahead of the first leg Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifier against Libya on Wednesday at the Bengerdan Stadium in Tunisia.
The Dream team departed to Tunisia via Air Maroc on Monday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport with 15 players and officials to be joined by eight other overseas-based professionals.
The departure was confirmed in a statement on NFF Twitter handle on Monday morning.
The Tweet reads, “Our Dream Team VII has left for Bergandan, Tunis, for the first leg U23 Afcon qualifier versus Libya U23. The game is scheduled for Wednesday 20th March 2019. Good luck to them. #SoarDreamTeamVII #Team9jaStrong #TotalU23Afcon, ”
The Dream team head coach, Imama Amapakabo picked 12 home-based players, 11 foreign-based players which include Villarreal wonder kid, Samuel Chukwueze, to prosecute the game.
Lobi Stars trio of Udochukwu Anumudu, Ebube Duru and John Lazarus top the list of domestic players which also include MFM’S defender, Joshua Akande and Stephen Manyo of Enyimba.
Turkey-based Azubuike Okechukwu, Taiwo Awoniyi who plays for Royal Excel Mouscron of Belgium, Club Brugge winger Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis and Spezia forward David Okereke are some of the foreign-based players in the list.
Africa’s flag-bearers in the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament of Tokyo 2020 will emerge during the 3rd Africa U23 Cup of Nations to hold in Egypt in November this year.
