MFM FC manager Fidelis Ilechukwu said he is delighted his team secured their first three points in the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League following a 2-0 victory against Kwara United at the Agege Stadium on Wednesday.
The Olukoya Boys who suffered a 2-0 loss to Enyimba at the Aba Township Stadium in the first game of the season responded positively to record a home victory in front of their supporters.
An own goal from Kwara United forward, Segun Alebiosun in the 49th minute and substitute, Adeniji Kabiru in the 76th minute was all the hosts needed.
Ilechukwu in a post-match interview said he was not satisfied with his players’ performance in the first half.
“Am grateful to my players for putting effort to get the maximum three points after losing our first game against Enyimba in Aba on Sunday.
” We lacked coordination in the first half and was giving away possesions so cheaply we could have been punished for that but I had to talk with my player during the break and that was the magic that changed the game for us.
On how he felt seeing his former player, Chukwuka Onuwa played against him at Aba he said, “To be sincere I felt like crying that day, but such is football I wish him the best in his new club.
On his current team after the departure of about ten players from the club.
“This set of players are the youngest in the league now and I am confident they can be relied on to go far this season.
” It is fifty-fifty, I am the youngest coach and have the youngest team, with such combination we can match any team in the league.
MFM will now focus on their next league game against CAF Champions League contender, Lobi Stars on Matchday 3.
