IAAF Unveil Cash Prizes For Birmingham Indoors

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has revealed the money prizes to be won by athletes that will participate in the IAAF World Indoor Championships Birmingham.

The IAAF indoors Championship which will commence March 1-4 will see athletes competing in various track and field events with a total of US$2,464,000 on offer from the IAAF as prize money for the four-day event.

There is also a US$50,000 bonus on offer for any athlete setting a world record during the four-day championships.

Prizes for individual events shows the 1st position gets US$40,000, 2nd US$20,000, 3rd US$10,000, 4th US$8000, 5th US$6000 while the 6th position will get US$4000.

The prize for Relays reveals the 1st team carting home US$40,000, 2nd US$20,000, 3rd US$10,000, 4th US$8000, 5th US$6000 any team that finishes 6th get US$4000.

In addition to a winner-takes-all US$20,000 bonus, the 11 individual discipline winners – along with the 11 winners from last year [1] – automatically qualify for the IAAF World Indoor Championships by wild card.

A statement from the IAAF website said several national teams that will be competing for the World Indoor Championships will have been boosted by the success of their athletes on the World Indoor Tour.

Athletes who are competing in the Championship are dependent upon them undergoing and clearing the usual anti-doping procedures.
