Kidnappers Release Samuel Kalu’s Mother

Super Eagles forward, Samuel Kalu’s mother, Ozuruonye Juliet Kalu has regained her freedom from the hands of unknown gunmen who kidnapped her for almost a week.

The Bordeaux forward’s mother was reportedly kidnapped on February 27th while travelling to her home town in Abia State with the kidnappers demanding a ransom of N3m from the footballer but later upped it to N15m.

She was released on Monday night as confirmed by the Abia State Police Spokesman Godfrey Ogbonna who said she has been reunited with her family.

“She was released around midnight (2300 GMT) on Monday and she has been reunited with her people,” he said.

“Circumstances surrounding her release has not been disclosed to me for now.

“But we are still investigating the incident in a bid towards ensuring that those who carried out the act are arrested and brought to book.”

The Police spokesman, however, did not state if any ransom was paid before she was released or not.

Kalu got his first senior international call up last year following his exploit in the French Ligue 1 with Bordeaux.

Kalu was called-up for the Super Eagles last AFCON qualifier game against Seychelles on March 22 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba and the international friendly against The Pharaohs of Egypt on March 26th at the same venue.
