Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has doused the tension surrounding defender, Virgil Van Dijk’s fitness ahead of their game against Southampton this weekend.
Van Dijk has been a key player to Liverpool’s Premier League title chase this season as he has continuously marshalled the defence line with his no-nonsense defending style and also rises to the occasion in some instances to score for the Reds.
The defender sustained a knock during last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, but Jürgen Klopp said he expects the centre-back to be available to face his former club on Friday.
Klopp in a Pre-match conference ahead of the trip to St Mary’s Stadium reported that there are no injury worries for his players including Van Dijk.
He said, “Yes, it looks quite good. No major concerns, actually, so we have to see until the matchday obviously but after the Spurs game, you’re probably thinking about Virg. He trained normal, everything OK.
“We only had a second recovery session but he was involved in that and I heard nothing different that he could maybe not train today. No, it looks all OK.”
Liverpool will be hoping to return to the top of the league table this weekend as Manchester City will be involved in the FA Cup semi-final against Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.
