Lobi Stars got off to a perfect start in their CAF Champions League group stage with a 2-1 victory against South African club Mamelodi Sundown on Friday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
The Markurdi-based club who were crowned NPFL champions last season is living to expectations in flying the flag of Nigeria higher in the continental competition.

Sundown however almost broke the deadlock in the first clear chance of the game as Ricardo Nascimento headed a corner from Gaston Sirino but a sterling reaction saves from Olufemi Kayode the visitors going ahead.
The visitors finally broke the deadlock through their forward, Laffor who raced on a quick counter to tap in a cross-field ball from Sirino close to halftime.
Lobi restored parity at the brink of half time through Ivorian forward, Yaya Kone who converted from the spot in what was the last kick of the first half.
The second half resumed with Lobi Stars pressing high again and after two stunning saves by Sundown goalkeeper to deny Mbah and Sunday Adentunji, glaring chances, Austin Ogunye finally scored to complete the comeback for Lobi from close range in the 52nd minute.
Sundown tried to pull level but Lobi were compactable in the defence, Lobi could have doubled their lead as Sundown became more tired towards the end but there was no further goal with the game ending 2-1.
