Olympique Lyon bounced back from a goal deficit to end boastful Paris Saint-Germain’s unbeaten run in the French Ligue 1 with a 2-1 victory.
The Parisians who have been on a winning cruise in French local league had hoped to maintain the dominance against their arch-rival having already defeated Lyon 5-0 in the first leg.
With Neymar out of the squad due to injury for ten weeks, Thomas Tuchel drafted Kylian Mbapope, Edison Cavani and Angel Di Maria in the attack and just seven minutes into the game, Di Maria scored his fifth goal of the season to give the visitors a perfect lead.
The lucky Argentine scored what will go down in the club’s 1000th goal since they were purchased by Qatari Sports Investments.
Lyon quickly responded before the end of the first half through Moussa Dembele who beat Areola to the full-back’s cross to head in his seventh league goal of the season in the 33rd minute.
Fekir who was exceptional in the game went on to put an end to PSG 21-game unbeaten streak four minutes into the second half as he scored from the spot after Dembele was fouled by Thiago Silva inside the box.
Lyon has now won 14 games against PSG at home and lost just three in their last 25 league game.
