Messi At 66, Makes UCL Record

Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi hit a new record following his goal against PSV on Wednesday night which makes him the all-time group stage top scorer in the Champions League.

Barcelona defeated PSV 2-1 at the Philips Stadion to book their round of 16 tickets as Messi scored his 66th group stage goal in 66 games to take his Champions League goal tally to 106

Messi in a post-match interview said, “We have achieved our objective of finishing top of a difficult group. We are really happy, it has been a tight group with tough away trips

“We are always prepared but to talk about it now is difficult, we have to think about what is ahead calmly.”

Speaking on his new record he said, “I am delighted, I have just found out now. I am happy with this new stat.”

Summing up the game, the striker said: “In the first half we lost the ball and we gave them chances from set pieces where they were strong.” Finally, he concluded: “The most important thing was to win and finish first and we have done that with a game to spare so job is done.”
