Paris Saint-Germain forward, Neymar Jr says he is delighted to have matched the record of former Real Madrid star, Kaka in the UEFA Champions League following PSG’s 6-1 trouncing of Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday.
Neymar scored two free kicks to become the first player to score two free-kick goals in the Champions League since 2009 after Cristiano Ronaldo, and also became the first Brazilian player to score the highest goals in the Champions League after Ricardo Kaka.
The former Barcelona player reached the 30-goal milestone in 49 matches which took Kaka 86 games to achieve in the Champions League.
Neymar in a short video clip interview made available on the UEFA Champions League official website paid tribute to Kaka who he described as his friend.
He said, “I am happy to reach that important milestone. It’s been a while.
“I want to salute Kaka, he’s a dear friend and I’m glad to be part of this history. I’m also very happy with the way the team performed and with my performance and I hope we carry on this way,” he added.
