Theophilus-Afelokhai-Enyimba-Super Eagles

Enyimba goalkeeper, Theophilus Afelokhai has emerged as the replacement for injured Super Eagles first choice, Francis Uzoho ahead of the Nations Cup qualifier against South Africa on November 17 at the FNB Stadium.

Uzoho who is on a season-long loan to Elche suffered a concussion in their 5-1 loss against Cadiz on Sunday in the Spain Division two as the club confirmed on Monday that he will be out for four weeks.

The sudden news of his unavailability for the must-win game against the Bafana Bafana prompted the Nigeria Football Federation to quickly look for an alternative as Coach Gernot Rohr decided to hand the Peoples Elephant safest pair of hands his first senior national team call-up.

Afelokhai has been exceptional for Enyimba as they reached the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup this season were they crashed out to Moroccan club, Raja Casablanca on 3-1 aggregate last month.

NFF in a statement on its official Twitter account said the former Kano Pillars goalkeeper will now replace the injured Uzoho.

The statement read, “Official: @EnyimbaFC‘s shot-stopper Theophilus Afelokhai replaces injured @Uzohof for @NGSuperEagles 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against @BafanaBafana of South Africa #SoarSuperEagles #Afcon2019Q #Team9jaStrong #RSANGA.”
