Super Falcons’ forward Asisat Oshoala’s successful loan transfer from her Chinese club, Dalian Quanjian to FC Barcelon’s Female Team marked the most significant deal of moment for Nigerian football stars finding their way out of China.
It Started with Super Eagles duo of Odion Ighalo and John Mikel Obi, announcing their decisions to seek greener pastures in Europe after ending their contracts with their respective Chinese clubs.
Mikel Obi, skipper of Nigeria’s male national team, the Super Eagles, has since joined English Championship side, Middlesbrough while Odion Ighalo is yet to land a new club.
Oshoala, a three-time Africa Women footballer of the Year, completed the deal and was unveiled by Barcelona on Thursday in a move aimed at strengthening the team.
The 24 years old, arrived in Barcelona on Thursday morning before undergoing a medical and signed the contract in the Office of the President of Camp Nou, with the presence of the director responsible for the section, Maria Teixidor, and sports manager, Markel Zubizarreta.
Speaking after she signed the dotted line the 2014 U-20 Women’s World Cup Golden Boot winner said she decided to join the club and strengthen them to win and make history.
“Obviously this is one of the best clubs in the world, the team has a great history and a good football mentality.”
“I am very excited to play again with Vicky Losada, a great midfielder, with a lot of energy and technique, I have also met Fabiana in China and she has helped me make this decision”.
Oshoala was the highest goal scorer in the Chinese Women Superliga in 2017.
