Formula One giant, McLaren is showing deep concerns over frequent testing accidents following the latest one involving Fernando Alonso Monday at the opening of the F1 winter testing in Barcelona.
McLaren’s driver Fernando Alonso right rear wheel came off in the final corner, pitching the F1 driver into a spin and leaving him in the gravel trap and is expected to be off track for at least a couple of hours.
The two time world champion had only completed only five laps before the accident occurred but was able to climb out.
Recall that in 2017, McLaren testing proved a disaster in their final season with Honda, completing just 425 laps across the two tests and just 29 on the opening day.
McLaren had been hoping to complete 100 laps per day during testing at the Circuit de Catalunya following their switch to Renault power for 2018.
