Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo for his phenomenal performance scoring a superb goal on his return from injury to help Juventus share the spoils with Ajax in the first leg of Champions League quarter-final.
The Bianconeri played a 1-1 draw with Ajax in Amsterdam on Wednesday night and it was Ronaldo who fired Juventus in front just before the end of the first half as Ajax equalized immediately after the second half restarted through David Neres.
The former Real Madrid striker returned to training on Tuesday with the team after a thigh injury that sidelined him while on international duty for Portugal in the Euro 2020 qualifier game against Serbia, March 25.
Allegri in his post-match conference after the game admitted his team were stretched by a youthful Ajax side.
“Ronaldo proved to be of another category, not only for the goal but for his playing time.
“We were stretched more than we should’ve, but our defensive play was very good”
“We could have done better. Ajax has important qualities, they bring so many men over the ball and they play well in the passage. We have stretched less than we should have done over the line of their plants. ”
Allegri will now focus on how to complete the task in Turin next week when they host Ajax in the second leg.
