WAFU U-20 Cup: Again, Senegal Deny Nigeria Another Cup Glory

The soccer rivalry between Nigeria and Senegal is gradually creeping to the forefront as the Junior Teranga Lions of Senegal defeated the Flying Eagles of Nigeria, 2-nil in the WAFU U-20 cup final to deny Nigeria the chances of another cup glory; the second in 72 hours.

The Senegalese Beach Soccer team had disgraced their Nigerian counterpart 6-1 in the final of the 2018 AFCON Beach Soccer in Egypt to retain the title on Friday.

The WAFU Cup which was a warm-up game for the 2019 Total U-20 tournament slated for the Niger Republic saw the Flying Eagles fall to their Senegalese counterpart.

The Eagles were totally outwitted from the first half and were lucky not to have conceded in the first half which ended goallessly.

The Senegalese player, Sagna Amadou finally broke the deadlock in the 47th  minute as the Nigeria defence could no longer absorb the pressure from the more youthful Senegalese side.

Nigeria began to push forward after going down to get an equalizer but their effort proved abortive as the Senegalese goalkeeper, Dially Ndiaye was on call to deal with all the Flying Eagles threats.

Youssouph Badji finally put an icing to the cake in the 69th minute to double the lead and Nigeria could no longer respond in whatever way as they succumbed to 2-0 loss to finish as runners-up.
