Zidane Turns To Vazquez As Injury Hit Madrid Defense

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane would be forced to deploy Lucas Vazquez to right full back after the club’s recent injury that has ruled out Nacho and Carvajal ahead of their crucial Champions League semi- final with Bayern Munich on Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Dani Carvajal’s hamstring injury in the first leg will keep him on the sidelines for two to three weeks, and this absence has come at the same time as Nacho Fernandez, the usual deputy right-back, also struggling with a similar complaint.

Though there are indications that Nacho could return but Vazquez who was deployed to the right back in the first leg at Allianz Arena could be the only available options.

Zidane in a post- match conference after Madrid 2-1 win over Leganes said, “It could be Lucas. Nacho hasn’t trained with the team. It’s very difficult to consider him an option for Tuesday.”

Defensive injuries have left the former Juventus midfielder in a pickle, despite resting every other starter from the trip to Bavaria in Saturday’s match with Leganes, Casemiro was still forced to start.

With Sergio Ramos fully rested on Saturday, Casemiro marshalled the centre back which Zidane responded that he only did so to allow Ramos and Varane to rest ahead of the crucial return leg.
